BEACHES
The coastline which runs from the rocky bluffs of Palos Verdes south of Malaga Cove to our south to the Redondo Pier on the north is a wide stretch of uncluttered beach with easy access. North of the pier and south of the marina is a small man-made beach called Seaside Lagoon.

The City of Redondo Beach's Seaside Lagoon, which opened in 2005, is open to the public daily in the summer season. Situated on the southwest corner of Harbor Drive and Portofino Way in Redondo Beach's King
Harbor, Seaside Lagoon operates from 10:00 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. daily throughout the summer months.
The large saltwater lagoon, heated by the nearby steam-generating
plant, offers trained lifeguard supervision. Besides swimming, the
Lagoon offers a large sand area for sunbathing, children's play equipment,
snack bar facilities provided by Ruby's Restaurant , and volleyball
courts. There is also a grassed area and luau shelter for day and
evening events.
Seaside Lagoon is a large saltwater 'mother-and-child-friendly' lagoon protected from the Pacific by a breakwater, and is heated by a steam-generating plant nearby. The Lagoon offers trained lifeguard supervision, and in addition to a comfortable swimming venue, it offers a large sandy 'beach' area for sunbathing, children's play equipment, snack-bar facilities (provided by Ruby's Restaurant), and volleyball courts. There is also a grassy area and luau shelter for day and evening events.
The Seaside Lagoon is a saltwater facility; its water for comes from the ocean-side of the breakwater, at a depth of about 50 feet, then travels to the nearby steam-generating plant where the water is first used to cool the turbines. It then travels underground in large pipes to the lagoon where it is chlorinated upon entering the lagoon and de-chlorinated leaving the lagoon as it is pumped back into the harbor. The Seaside Lagoon holds roughly 1.5 million gallons of water and has a flow-through rate of over 150,000 gallons per hour.
